    How Canvas Calculates Grades

Canvas LMS uses weighted assignment groups to calculate your final grade. Each assignment group (like Homework, Quizzes, etc.) has a weight that determines how much it contributes to your final grade. Within each group, your grade is calculated based on the total points earned divided by total points possible.

    Drop Lowest Feature

Canvas allows instructors to configure assignment groups to automatically drop the lowest scoring assignments. This calculator supports this feature - simply set the "Drop Lowest" value for any assignment group to specify how many of the lowest scoring assignments should be excluded from grade calculations.

    Tips for Using This Calculator

    • Enter your assignment groups with their respective weights
    • Add assignments to each group with their scores and total points
    • Use the "Include Ungraded" toggle to see how unsubmitted assignments affect your grade
    • Explore "What-If" scenarios to plan your study strategy
    • Make sure your assignment group weights add up to 100% for accurate calculations
    • Use the Target Grade calculator to determine what scores you need on remaining work
    • Save your calculations to track your progress throughout the term
